The Scenic Route to Serendipity: How a Traveller Found Her Mt. Baker Ring in Kelowna

Every once in a while, something happens that just feels meant to be.

Last weekend, I got an email through my website from a woman who was passing through Kelowna and wanted to come by to see my jewellery. I don’t usually open my home studio to visitors — I work privately out of my garage and have to balance safety, family, and time — but for some reason, this message felt different. It felt right.

A couple hours later, she and her partner pulled up in their camper van. They’d been travelling across Canada for the last nine months, just taking the scenic route — literally — and exploring as they went. As soon as we started chatting, it was like everything just clicked.

She told me she’d been searching for a mountain ring that was Canadian-made, something that felt connected to her adventures. And somehow, she found me — a Kelowna jeweller — right as she happened to be in Kelowna. How wild is that?

Then it got even better. The ring she loved was my Silver Altitude Ring, which is designed after Mt. Baker — and that mountain just so happened to be the first one she ever summited, only a month ago. Talk about alignment! We both got chills.

Now, I don’t carry a ton of stock — most of my work is made to order — but I happened to have one of those rings sitting on my bench, her exact size. It wasn’t polished yet, just sanded. So while we talked about her travels and the mountains that had changed her, I polished it right there in front of her.

When she slipped it on, still warm from the polishing buff,  it felt like one of those full-circle moments. The ring had found its person.

It’s experiences like that that remind me why I love what I do — creating jewellery that connects people to their stories, to the places they’ve loved, and to the journeys that make them who they are.

Sometimes, saying yes — even when it’s a little outside your comfort zone — leads you exactly where you’re meant to be. 🌄✨
